About Us

You may wonder the reason for being called a Therapeutic Alliance rather than a Mental Health or Behavioral Health Clinic or a Counseling Agency or a Psychotherapy Service or any of the other popular private practice names.

“The therapeutic alliance consists of three essential elements: agreement on the goals of the treatment, agreement on the tasks, and the development of a personal bond made up of reciprocal positive feelings.”

Several studies show that the most important factor in healing and growth is not the therapeutic orientation of the therapist, modality used, credentials earned, or accolades received. The most important factor is the therapeutic alliance.

Meet Your Provider

My name is Remington Vandergriff, and I am a Tennessee Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board Certified Diplomate, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and Phi Alpha honor society member with additional licensing in and New Mexico and North Carolina and tele-health registration in Florida and Vermont.

I earned my Psychology BS with a minor in Military Science in the Army ROTC program at Truman State University from 2002-2006; my MSW through the AMEDD C&S program from 2011-2012; and my LCSW through the intensive Social Work Internship Program at Ft. Sam Houston from 2013-2015.  I served as an Army Behavioral Health Officer in the 101st Airborne Division until 2018 when I was medically retired for combat and other service-connected injuries.  From 2018 until recently I worked for the VA Homeless Veterans Program but have since taken this private practice full-time.

I am trained in multiple evidence-based therapies such as: REBT, CBT, CPT, PE, EMDR, SFT, MI, Clinical Hypnotherapy, and CBTi.  My main focus and interest lie in men’s mental health, Veteran issues, and LCSW Supervision.  I am well versed in self-care, coping skills, and anger management.  I do not do couple’s or family therapy.  I will see minors 16+ on a case-by-case basis.

Regardless of any of that, evidence shows the most important part of healing is not the therapeutic style, modality of treatment, or school the therapist went to but is the therapeutic alliance.  I can tell you the vast majority of my clients have reported feeling at ease, comfortable, and heard while I provided care for them.

I have been an LCSW supervisor since 2018, have completed all of the recently added TN training requirements. I meet all criteria to provide 50% of the required supervision in North Carolina (telehealth rules) and am awaiting official approval from New Mexico to be placed on their list.  Before that, I provided frequent case consultations for peers and subordinates (to include high-risk consultation), supervised LMSWs as a field site supervisor, and supervised Behavioral Health Technicians.  As an Army officer, I led hundreds of troops and am well versed in leadership, organizational, and management skills as well as how to build and develop the next generation.
